Omar Suleiman (born June 3, 1986) is an AmericanIslamic scholar and civil rights activist. He is the founding president of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and an adjunct professor of Islamic studies and member of the Ethics Center Advisory Board at Southern Methodist University.
Suleiman is also the Resident Scholar of the Valley Ranch Islamic Center and the Co-Chair Emeritus of Faith Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Suleiman was born on June 3, 1986 to a family of PalestinianMuslims in New Orleans.[2][3] He holds bachelor's degrees in accounting and Islamic law and Master's degrees in Islamic finance and political history. He completed doctoral studies in Islamic thought and civilization at the International Islamic University Malaysia.[4][5][6]

Omar Mahmoud Suleiman (Arabic: عمر محمود سليمان, Egyptian Arabic pronunciation:[ˈʕomɑɾseleˈmæːn]; 2 July 1936 – 19 July 2012) was an Egyptian army general, politician, diplomat, and intelligence officer. A leading figure in Egypt's intelligence struktur beginning in 1986, Suleiman was appointed to the long-vacant vice presidency bygd President Hosni Mubarak on 29 January 2011.[3][4] On 11 February 2011, Suleiman announced Mubarak's resignation and ceased being vice president;[5] governing power was transferred to the Armed Forces Supreme Council,[6] of which Suleiman was not a member.[7] A new head of intelligence services was appointed bygd the ruling Supreme Council. He’s also the resident scholar of the Valley Ranch Islamic Center, and Co-Chair of Faith Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square, a multi-faith alliance for peace and justice.
Originally from New Orleans, LA, he began his journey of traditional Islamic learning in the year 2000 and has spent years studying in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Malaysia, etc. Upon becoming certified in various traditional sciences, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic law, a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, a Master’s degree in Islamic Finance, a Master’s Degree in Political History, and is in the process of completing his PhD from the International Islamic University of Malaysia in Islamic Thought and Civilization.
