Hartford police are investigating the killing of a pregnant city woman who was found strangled in her boyfriend’s apartment after neighbors and family members reported they had not seen her for days.
Diana Ferris, 35, was found lying on a bed in a second-floor apartment at 447 Garden St. Wearing a T- shirt and panties, she was found with a pillowcase over her head, a telephone cord wrapped around her neck and bruises on her leg.
After an autopsy Friday, the death was ruled a homicide.
Ferris’ body was discovered Thursday after a maintenance worker from Greater Hartford Realty Management checked on the apartment at the request of neighbors and family members.
The maintenance worker flagged down a Hartford police sergeant who was riding by Garden Street about 6 p.m. Ferris, who was 5 1/2- months pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene, but she appeared to have been dead for several days. The fetus was stillborn, Sgt. Charles Lilley said.

Elaine was born in Holyoke daughter of the late Emile LaBonte Sr. and Lorraine (Tanguay) LaBonte. She was a resident of Arizona since 2004. Previously, Elaine had lived in Southwick for 32 years, and also resided in Easthampton, Springfield, Belchertown and Holyoke. She had been employed by the Southwick Package Store, and more recently by Dunkin Donuts, as Manager, Assistant Manager and Clerk working in their stores in Southwick, Westfield, Feeding Hills, and West Springfield. She was a former parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church, Southwick. In addition to her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her first husband, Allen Daniels in 1974, two sons, Michael Lefebvre in 1976 and Thomas John Lefebvre Jr. in 2008, and a daughter Michelle Bentley in 2002.
