State titles at Nease High School begat national titles with Florida, which, in turn, begat a first round draft pick and an improbable run of comebacks in the NFL with the Broncos. That's both because he's grown up with almost every advantage an American could want and because he's been given equal opportunity to succeed at almost every juncture; he's a powerful symbol both for how privilege aids everyone and how equal opportunity is what we should strive for.

Tim Tebow, full name Timothy Richard Tebow, was born in Makati, Manila, Philippines on 14 August , as the eldest of four children to Christian missionaries Robert Ramsey Tebow II and Pamela Elaine Tebow, nee Powell.

His family moved back to the United States in , and he went to live with his grandparents in Florida. When his parents returned to the Philippines in , and the rest of the family moved the following year.

He attended the First Baptist Church, and in , he first met Kurt Warner, who would later become the spelare i amerikansk fotboll of the St. Louis Rams, with whom he later played.
