Lakshmibai was born probably on 19 November [1][3] • Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi (; 19 November – 18 June [2][3]), was the queen of the princely state of Jhansi in North India currently present in Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh, India.[4] She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of and became a symbol of resistance to the British Raj for Indian nationalists. Lakshmibai or Manikarnika (Manu Bai) was born on 19 November [5][6][7] in the holy town of Varanasi into a MarathiBrahmin family.[8][9] She was named Manikarnika and was nicknamed Manu.[10] Her father was Moropant Tambe [11] and her mother Bhagirathi Sapre (Bhagirathi Bai). Her parents came from Maharashtra and was cousin of Nana Sahib.[12] Her mother died when she was four years old.
