Japan's Kohki Idoki became one of the most surprising winners of a major championship in golf history on Sunday. The 51-year-old, who has never ventured off the Japanese Tour, fired a 6-under 65 to svep past 54-hole leader Kenny Perry for a two-stroke victory in the Senior PGA Championship at Bellerive Golf Club in St. Louis.

Perry began the sista round with a two-stroke lead over his playing partner in the gods group, Jay Haas. But neither one of those players could catch Idoki, who posted four birdies on the front nine and two more on the back - with no bogeys - to rally from a five-shot deficit and finish at 11-under 273.

Kohki Idoki Wins Senior PGA Championship as Clueless Blogger Looks On

It was a Sunday full of surprises at Bellerive Country Club. The biggest surprise of all, of course, was Kohki Idoki, an unknown player from Japan who came from behind to win the Senior PGA Championship on his first ever trip to the United States.

ST. LOUIS -- Kohki Idoki's eyes welled with tears as he putted for the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, and again in the interview room Sunday. Everything about his first appearance in the event, and first trip to the United States, was perfect.

"It is one of the greatest things to win in this game, so I cannot imagine more," Idoki said Sunday through a translator. "I can't believe that I am the champion."

Kenny Perry can't believe he let another major tournament title slip away.

"Well, it was going good for the first 13 holes or whatever," Perry said.

Idoki erased a five-stroke deficit against Perry with room to spare, charging to a two-stroke victory at Bellerive Country Club.

It was the third bitter final-round major tournament failure for the 52-year-old Perry, who led by three strokes with six holes to p
