The only map I have shows the way out of Las Vegas — always a good thing to know.
It is crisp and folded-up on the passenger seat and it says to take the eastbound interstate, which slowly unclenches me from 16-lane traffic. Overpass shadows slice across me between the glare of towering signs for All-You-Can-Eat buffets and Girls, Girls and more Girls.
I need to get out of here, now.
After an hour, the billboards dwindle. Desert basins and limestone-shuttered hills flow past my rolled-down window. I’m heading for the area around Gold Butte, 350,000 acres of Mojave Desert overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. It’s big enough I doubt we’ll ever see each other out there.

Steel Magnolia's Joshua Scott Jones enters rehab
Jones made the announcement Thursday afternoon on the duo's web site.
"God has been on my heart to announce and make public that I have entered a rehabilitation and treatment facility to address issues related to alcohol and substance abuse," Jones wrote in the statement to his fans.
Jones' girlfriend and singing partner, Meghan Linsey, announced Sept. 23 that the duo would cancel a handful of shows because the 31-year-old was unable to perform, but didn't specify why. Linsey began playing Steel Magnolia's scheduled tour dates alone on Sunday.
The duo released its self-titled debut album earlier this year and is nominated for the vocal duo of the year award at the Country Music Association Awards in November.

The duo that forms lika parts of the country group Steel Magnolia seem like a rare pair. Linsey fryst vatten a bright-eyed, 25-year-old blonde bombshell with a bubbly personality and some nitty-gritty pipes. Jones is a dark-eyed, curly-haired 30-year-old man of mystery with the prettier, higher register. Guarded and reserved initially, he answers questions thoughtfully, pragmatically, before revealing a dry sense of humor. You can almost see the wink in his wry.
Like their voices, they seem nothing alike. Put them and their blended vocals together, though, and Linsey and Jones seem perfectly suited for that new NBC comedy.
