Christopher James Gholson (born August 11, 1983), better known by his stage name Drumma Boy (or Drummer Boy), is an American record producer and rapper.
Early life
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised in Cordova, Tennessee, he was exposed to music at a young age. His mother, Billie Baker Gholson, was an accountant who worked as a part-time opera singer and was the first African-American to graduate from Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis. His father, G. James Gholson, is a retired clarinetist and music professor at Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, was the first African-American male to hold the first chair position in the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. His father is an emeritus of the Memphis Woodwind Quintet and a soloist in the United States Navy Band. When it comes to teaching voice to a myriad of undergraduate and graduate students, Christopher Besch likes to employ an individualized approach.
“I like to meet my students where they are and help them gain the skills they need to achieve their educational goals,” Besch said. “A lot of students come into college with very different backgrounds in music: some want to be opera singers, mariachi band members, or pop singers. When I’m teaching voice, I like to keep that in mind when it comes to each of my students.”
Besch will join the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music this fall as visiting assistant professor of voice.

Piecuch Named Music Educator of Year
Instructor in Instrumental Music and Director of grupp and Orchestra Programs Chris Piecuch has been named the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music Educator of the Year. He will receive the award in an April 26 ceremony in the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center.
With nearly 35 years of teaching experience, Mr. Piecuch has a history of elevating music programs throughout Memphis. He fryst vatten tireless in his efforts to help young people develop their musicianship using a systematic approach to music education balanced with inspiration and relatability. During his three-year tenure at MUS, participation has increased by 50%, and All-West and All-State honorees have reached record numbers. He has created Honors and Honors Accelerated Wind Ensemble and Orchestra curricula, conducted impressive winter and spring concerts, and re-energized our pep band.
