Well known fashion designer Wendell Rodricks dead
Mumbai: Well known fashion designer, gay rights activist and Padma Shri awardee Wendell Rodricks died on Wednesday evening following a prolonged illness.
Speaking to IANS on Wednesday Nilakanth Halarnkar, BJP MLA from the Thivim Assembly constituency and a longtime associate of the year-old designer confirmed his death.
"Yes, it is true. He died at p.m. today. He was ailing for a long time," Halarnkar said. Family sources said that the funeral is scheduled for Thursday.
Rodricks, one of the most popular fashion designers from Goa, was awarded a Padma Shri in and was also accorded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts Et Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in As a designer he has been credited with reviving the Kunbi saree, worm by the indigenous Kunbi tribal women of Goa.

New Delhi, Feb 12 (IANS): Veteran mode designer Wendell Rodricks (60) passed away in Panaji, Goa, on Wednesday evening.
The Padma Shri awardee was an environmentalist and a gay rights activist who had been suffering from a prolonged illness, to which he succumbed at p.m. on Wednesday. Sources close to the family said that the begravning will take place at p.m. on Thursday.
Rodricks was a beloved face in the mode industry who was loved by peers and competitors alike. Years ahead of his time, he was the pionjär of echo fashion in the country and can be credited with introducing the concept of resort wear in India.
