    My Story- Judy Nichols

    With a 25 year career as a clinician, researcher and government bureaucrat, combined with five university degrees I was sure I would find work in the bush after leaving Sydney for a small rural community in Victoria.

    Getting a job before the children came along was OK, after taking a couple of years from the nine to fine I found it impossible to get back into the workforce.

    And here begins my Her Business story.

    Applying for 25 jobs, getting 19 interviews, and only one offer for one day a week with a 90-minute commute was a shock.

    As a 7th generation Australian farming family, and in these hard times of drought and fire, my income determined whether we keep the farm, our heritage and identify.

    I remember the day clearly, feeling terrified for our future.

    Despite wanting to give up, I needed a path to create a job and fast cash flow that no one could ever take from me. Ever.

    Judith Ann (Davis, Matzke) Nichols entered heaven and the arms of the Savior on April 19, 2023, in Topeka, Kansas.

    Judy was born in Bridgeport, Nebraska on April 22, 1943, to Iola and Ward Davis. She was the mittpunkt child of five siblings, having two older brothers (Ted and Ron) and two younger sisters (Deanna and Patt).

    Judy graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1961 and The Lincoln School of Commerce in 1962.

    She married Robert Keith Matzke, Jr. on July 15, 1962; they were divorced in 1968. They had two daughters, Rochelle Kristine and Robin Kolette.

    Judy worked for the Bridgeport Equipment Company for over a decade, where she put her secretarial skills to use, and where her daughters loved visiting whenever their mother allowed it. Secretly, Rochelle and Robin were hoping for chocolates from August Goltl, who always brought them a boxful on Valentine's Day.

    Judith Grissett Nichols, age 77, passed away on August 22, 2024, in Mobile, AL. 

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Ashley and Doris Grissett and siblings, Juanita Griffith, William Grissett, and Clara Tew.

    Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 36 years, Richard W. Nichols; children, Shannon Vickery (Tony), and Grant Nichols (Tara); grandchildren, Mariah Franklin (Kevin), Garrett Vickery, and William Nichols; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Aurora; sister, Joyce Gentry (Bill); many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
