  • Originally from NJ, William Tucker was a prolific post punk/industrial guitarist who was mainly a session player. He taught guitar lessons locally for a while and had Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo from the band Ween as one of his students.

After Al Jourgensen from Ministry heard a Swinging Piston’s single on which Tucker played guitar, he asked him to join Ministry’s A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste tour in 1989 (and as a result, moved to Chicago that same year). This opened up several doors afterwards for him as he became a highly sought after musician by other bands who were impressed with his guitar playing skills. He later went on the road with Foetus, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, the Revolting Cocks, KMFDM, and Pigface.

In 1999 Tucker joined Ministry again for what would have been his second year long tour with them on their Dark Side of the Spoon tour. He committed suicide on May 14th by overdosing on prescription medication and

“It’s Not Easy Listening”: Thirty Years Of Pure Fucking Mayhem

Two years ago I went to Oslo with the express intent of interviewing Mayhem about the 25th anniversary of their landmark debut Deathcrush. My idea was to take them to the band’s old haunt, the location of Helvete Records – now a Vietnamese bagel shop called Vårt Daglige Brød (trans. Our Daily Bread). Even though my motives were originally quite pure – I wanted to write about the stuff that never usually gets a look in, in the popular narrative of Mayhem (the music) – the baroque, fascinating and genuinely disturbing back story of the group got in the way. By coincidence, another piece I’d written on the band

Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal grupp formed in Oslo in 1984. They were one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metall scene, and their music has profoundly influenced the black metall genre. Mayhem's early career was marked by controversy, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead"), and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth ("Euronymous") bygd former member Varg Vikernes ("Count Grishnackh") of Burzum.

The group released a demo and an EP that were highly influential, amassing a devoted following through sporadic and notorious live performances while attracting further attention due to their connections with the series of Norwegian church burnings and the incidents of violence surrounding them. Mayhem temporarily disbanded following Aarseth's murder, shortly before the release of their debut skiva, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, which fryst vatten regarded as a classic of the b
